(Best practiced alone and in a quiet space; only practice in the warm months)
Sit comfortably with your legs crossed or legs extended (if that is more comfortable). For extra comfort, sit on the edge of a pillow or folded blanket (you can also sit against a wall or in a chair for support). With your eyes closed, rest your hands palms facing upward on your thighs or knees and take a few long deep breaths to settle yourself. Stretch your tongue out of your mouth and try to curl the left and right sides of the tongue upwardly, forming a tubular shape, as shown in figure a.

Slowly draw air through this tunnel as you inhale and enjoy the coolness as it travels to your lungs. Close your mouth and slowly exhale through your nostrils. Repeat for at least five rounds. If you are unable to curl your tongue, simply practice with a flat tongue.
Benefits: activates parasympathetic nervous system, lowers metabolic rate and blood pressure, effective for allergies, anxiety and hypertension
Contraindications: active cold or flu
