MS Symptoms

MS is a disease that attacks the myelin in the central nervous system (CNS)—the protective sheath that covers the nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. When attacked, the transmission of nerve impulses are either slowed or blocked, affecting certain abilities and skills. As every case of MS is different, symptoms vary from person to person.

Symptoms may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Numbness
  • Walking, balance and coordination problems
  • Muscle spasms, tremors or weakness
  • Blurred or loss of vision
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Bowel or bladder disorder
  • Speech disorder
  • Short-term memory problems
  • Partial or complete paralysis
  • Emotional changes
  • Swallowing problems
  • Itching
